You CAN Make A Difference! (UMCOR Special Offering – Sunday, October 29)

You CAN Make A Difference! (UMCOR Special Offering – Sunday, October 29)

Special UMCOR Offering on Sunday, October 29

The wave of disasters that have marched across our television screens this fall is mind numbing – hurricanes Harvey, Matthew, Maria, Irma, Earthquake in Mexico, fires in northern California and the list goes on.  What can one person or one congregation do in the face of so much disaster? Where does one begin and so many of us do nothing?  I’m sure that Jesus felt similarly overwhelmed by the size of the need. But that didn’t stop him from healing. I hope that it won’t stop us. On Sunday, October, 29 we will take a special offering that will be equally with A Future With Hope, the UMCOR (The United Methodist relief agency) Domestic Disaster Relief Fund and the UMCOR Foreign Disaster Relief Fund. Please give generously!

And, join us for A Day of Prayer to mark the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.

Family Promise Lyndhurst Outreach – October 18 and 20

Family Promise Lyndhurst Outreach – October 18 and 20

For the past eleven years the United Presbyterian Church of Lyndhurst has participated in the Family Promise shelter program. Every year, their congregation feeds and shelters up to fifteen guests for a week at a time for a total of three weeks each year!  Their next week runs from Monday, October 16 to Sunday, October 22. Leonia Church has been helping them carry out this very important mission by providing food and sleepover chaperons for two of the nights each week. This coming week in October, Leonia Church will supply volunteers for Wednesday, October  18 and Friday, October 20.  Help is still needed for October 18.  We need volunteers to bring food, and two volunteers to stay overnight. Can you help? If so, please contact John Stott  stottj@d-e.org or Ellie Spiegel at  hansellie@gmail.com.

The Amazing Journey of a Shoebox – Operation Christmas Child

The Amazing Journey of a Shoebox – Operation Christmas Child

Sunday, October 22

The Amazing Journey of a Shoebox Gift Begins with You and Results in Evangelism, Discipleship, and Multiplication.

For more than 20 years, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered shoebox gifts packed by caring people like you to hurting children around the world as part of Operation Christmas Child. Pick up an empty shoebox and instructions in our sanctuary starting this Sunday. We will collect and dedicate your shoeboxes on Sunday, October 22! (Be sure to bring your shoebox to worship that morning, or drop it off at the church office in advance.) See Carol Dunham for details.  Last year Leonia Church filled and donated 49 shoebox gifts to children in need around the world.
